High Pressure Joint Testers: Precision Testing for Pipeline Infrastructure

Joint Tester in Panama

In the world of underground infrastructure, it is often said that a pipeline is only as strong as its weakest joint. And it is true! Leaks and structural failures do not usually occur in the middle of a pipe run. They start at the joints.

As urban development surges and infrastructure ages, engineers and contractors need tools that allow them to isolate and test these potential problem points efficiently and accurately.

That is where Joint Testers, like those developed by PlugCo, come in.

The Advantages of Joint Testing

Traditionally, entire sections of pipeline were filled and tested all at once. While this is still a valid approach in some scenarios, it is not always the most efficient or environmentally conscious one, especially with large-diameter pipes or when water usage is a concern.

Joint Testers solve this by enabling localized testing of individual joints, without having to flood an entire section. It is faster, uses far less water, and offers more detailed insight into the structural integrity of each connection.

PlugCo’s High Pressure Joint Testers: Built to Handle High Testing Pressure

PlugCo’s JT-H series of High-Pressure Joint Testers are designed for demanding applications. At their core is a steel framework, over-molded with heavy-duty reinforced rubber. This combination allows the device to maintain a tight seal during high-pressure testing, up to several bars, while remaining flexible enough for easy installation and removal.

They are ideal for testing concrete, GRP pipe joints, and other pipe material too, and are frequently used in water and sewer projects where the margin for error is extremely low.

Available PlugCo Models

PlugCo offers a wide range of joint testers specially manufactured on project basis considering the joint length, the pipe material, pipe diameter, and testing pressure

PlugCo offers accessories to be used with its Joint Testers too, such as the inflation air hose and an advanced control device used for monitoring both inflation pressure of the bladders, and the test pressure either in water or air joint leak test.

PlugCo’s High Pressure Joint Testers are not flashy, but they solve a problem that many in the industry deal with daily. Their practicality, efficiency, and precision make them a must-have for contractors and inspectors working on major pipeline installations.

Joint Tester as per EN1610

All PlugCo’s joint testing products are engineered in accordance with EN1610, the European standard for testing gravity pipeline systems.

As per EN60, it is recommended to user the Joint Tester for pipe diameters over DN1000 as the full-section water testing becomes impractical.

Although EN1610 standard states the testing pressure as 0,5 bar, PlugCo manufactures high pressure joint testers to meet the requirement of its clients.

The peace of mind that comes with knowing a joint is 100% sealed—without having to assume—is invaluable.
