Pneumatic Pipe Plug Applications

There are various applications where to use pneumatic pipe plug depending on the pipeline and the type of the work. Let’s check the different scopes of usage.

REPAIRING A SPECIFIC AREA

If you need to repair a specific zone, there are two ways to isolate that zone.

The first one is bypassing the water flow with a pump. As you can see in the following photo, you need two PlugCo PTP pneumatic pipe plug Models, a bypass pipeline, a pump and an air supply. PTP Models allow water bypass. You can easily isolate the area for repairing by connecting the two Pipe Test Plugs by a bypass line and circulating pump.

Diverting the flow using pump

The second way to isolate the repair zone is to use a bypass line without a water pump. In this application two PTP Model pneumatic pipe plugs are connected with a bypass line to allow the flow of water to pass as illustrated in the following sketch.

TESTING A SPECIFIC AREA

If you need to make a leak test of a specific area, check if there are manholes. The type of the pneumatic pipe plug which you will use depends on whether there are manholes or not.

If there is no manhole, you will need one PP Model pneumatic pipe plug and one PTP Model and a water supply besides an air supply. An Air Discharge Adaptor is also needed to discharge the compressed air from the test area. PP model blocks one side of the pipeline and the other side of the line is blocked by the PTP model which includes the bypass connection. This connection allows to fill the line with water to test the pipeline for leaks.

Leak Test using Pneumatic Pipe Plug

If there is a manhole, two PP pneumatic pipe plug models will be enough to complete the leak test. You can fill water to the testing zone through manhole. Moreover, observing the water level at manhole is a practical way to do the leak test as per EN 1610.

Water Leak Test

If you want to make an air leak test, you will need one PP Model and one PTP Model and an air supply. An Air Test Adaptor is also needed to control and monitor the air in the test area. PP model blocks one side of the pipeline and the other side of the line is blocked by the PTP model which includes the bypass connection. This connection allows to fill the line with air.
